Inclusive Marketing: Engaging with LGBT Audiences

To highlight June as Pride month, PSAMA has assembled a panel of local marketers to discuss what it means to be an inclusive marketer. This panel discussion will dive deep into how companies are being inclusive of LGBT audiences and how they are engaging with this audience, both externally in their marketing, campaigns, strategies and also internally within their companies.

Stephen Black, VP of Marketing, BECU
Stephen Black is the Vice President of Marketing for BECU, Washington state’s leading credit union with 960,000 members and $15 billion in assets. He leads all facets of strategic marketing in this role, which he has held since 2006. During his tenure BECU has more than tripled in both membership and asset size, and is ranked as the most preferred financial brand in the Seattle market.
Tara Hastings, Global Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager, Starbucks
Tara Hastings has been with Starbucks as Global Diversity and Inclusion Program Manager since 2015. Prior to this, she was the VP for D&I at Bank of the West. She has experience working in San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Seattle for companies such as PNC and Nordstrom. She has worked in the diversity field since 2003. She brings a strong internal focus on employee resource groups, education and creating an inclusive environment for all.
Robert Roth, Communications Director, Gay City Health Project
Robert Roth is fortunate to serve as Gay City’s Communications Director, because it allows him the freedom to do many of the things he loves, including writing, design, and illustration, all in service to his community. Robert also serves as Principal and Editor In Chief for Jetspace Magazine, the place to see news, reviews, interviews, and more, all from a decidedly queer perspective.
James Thomas has served as the director of Corporate Diversity Affairs at Nordstrom since 2011. Together with his team, James works to integrate diversity and inclusion throughout the Nordstrom business, with a specific focus on recruitment and retention, training, education and community engagement. James also supports the company’s supplier diversity program, which has spent more than $14 billion with diverse-owned businesses.
